Akmal Husain
Born in Silchar, Assam in 1961,
Akmal Husain did his B.F.A. and M.F.A. in painting from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan (1979-86). After this he was selected for a Japanese scholarship in Fine Arts (wood block print making) from Kyoto Seika University, Kyoto, Japan, 1994-97. He has received the Sovana Banik Memorial Scholarship from Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, 1984; the National Academy Award from Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, 1985; a Research Grant from Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, 1989-90 and the Japanese Govt. Scholarships (Monbusho) Japan, 1993-97. He has participated in several group shows in India and Japan and done one solo Exhibition titled 'Inner Science', at the, Dhoomimal Art Centre, New Delhi, 2004. He is currently living and freelancing as an artist in Pondicherry where he come to stay with his family for his children's education.
